This is an important page to read and refer back to. Just in case you are late returning something or lose something you borrowed...which won't happen, but just in case. :)
Materials may be renewed up to three times, either in person or by telephone, as long as no one else has requested them and the items are not overdue. At the end of the semester, students must be registered for the coming term in order to renew library materials.
Renew through your Primo Account! If you are on our homepage, click on "Advanced Search" to get into Primo. Then sign in and you can open your account. You'll see an example of how to do it in this video. Just be aware that due dates may differ if you are a student, faculty, or staff.
All library materials have a due date stamped inside the cover when they are checked out. Materials become overdue the first day after the due date and borrowing privileges are suspended. Non-receipt of an overdue notice does not remove responsibility for returning library materials.
Fines will be cut in half if they are paid when the items are returned and if they were due in the current semester for books and AV materials only.
Materials may be recalled for use by UMD students, faculty and staff any time after the first fourteen days of the loan. All library materials needed for Reserve can be recalled at any time. After a recall notice has been sent, all patrons have one week to return the material or a fine of one dollar ($1.00) per day will commence, up to a maximum of fifty dolars ($50.00). If a library borrower does not return the item within ten days, he/she will be sent a bill that includes the fine up to the date of the bill.
Recall fees apply to all library patrons, including UMD faculty, staff and administrators.
Library Card = UMass Pass
Currently registered students of UMass Dartmouth are eligible to borrow upon presentation of a valid UMass Pass. We cannot accept any other forms of ID such as a driver's license. If you should forget your ID and need to borrow something, we can hold your materials for one day.
ALL library patrons, no matter what their status, must not have any overdue library materials/equipment or outstanding fines in order to have borrowing privileges.
Length of Loans
Books should be returned as soon as they are no longer needed and are due thirty days after they are borrowed. Participants in special programs are limited by the length of the program.
Number of Items to Check Out
AV materials = 10
Books = 30
Lost or Damaged Materials/Equipment:
If library material is damaged beyond repair or is lost, the patron is billed for the replacement cost of the material plus any fines.
If the lost material is found within sixty (60) days after the charges have been paid, a refund of the replacement cost only will be given. Refunds are not immediate. They will be generated through the University Business Office.
If audio/visual equipment is damaged or lost, the patron is billed for the replacement cost of the equipment plus any fines. If the patron returns the material or equipment, he/she is still responsible for any fines accrued.
Borrowing privileges are suspended for ALL library patrons until all overdues have been returned and fees paid.
The Library reserves the right to deny all borrowing privileges to borrowers with outstanding charges. It is the right of the Library to withhold degrees, transcripts and registrations until all financial obligations are met.
