1. Step one in any research adventure is considering search terms. Think about your topic and jot down the words and phrases that come to mind.
2. Did you include any unnecessary words like: effects, by, between, in, causes, uses, examples, etc.? If so, get rid of those. Keep your search terms to very concise ideas.
3. Can you think of any related words or phrases for these terms? Write those down. If you realize you already did this, just do a bit of reorganizing and group them together as needed.
4. If there are any phrases that are really important that all the words are together for (think "interior design") then put them in quotation marks.
5. Map out how you want to use them. What words or phrases would go best together in a search? What would be a good alternate search if that one fails you?

*Notice that many of these words seem...cut off with an * at the end. This is a truncation - it tells the database to bring up anything that starts with those letters before it. For example, sustainab* brings up sustainable and sustainability without you having to type both words!
