Open Educational Resources

Ravel Law is a legal research database that focuses on case analytics. It is currently free for users with a valid email address from an educational institution. In addition, Ravel Law just entered into a collaboration with Harvard Free the Law project. All of the digitized case law content is open to the public and is accessible by creating an Open account under the Ravel Law plans. The content is also open for commercial use but with limitations.

Public Access to Court Electronic Records (PACER) is an electronic public access service that allows users to obtain case and docket information online from federal appellate, district, and bankruptcy courts, and the PACER Case Locator. PACER is provided by the Federal Judiciary in keeping with its commitment to providing public access to court information via a centralized service. The service allows up to twenty (20) free downloads per month, after which every download will cost twenty cents (0.20) each.

Co/Counsel is a project to systematically map what the law is, and do it with a mix of experts and crowd sourcing. It’s being developed by a professional from the law firm Quinn Emmanuel. The only public-facing one right now is Patent Law, which is viewable either in column mode or in mind map.

This open source project is focused on visual design, visualizing the law to make it more understandable. The public and download images or contribute their own images to the project. The project includes resources in the following areas: illustrated law, human centered dispute resolution, access to justice, legal education technology, and games.
