HST 316/WMS 316: Women and Gender in Medieval Europe

A libguide that focuses on the experiences of women in pre-modern Europe.

About this page

Here you will find lists of useful reference books: book length (and multi-volume) bibliographies and specialized encyclopedias covering, specifically, the topics of women and gender in the Middle Ages in Europe.

Bibliographies and Research Guides

Bibliographies in the backs of books are very useful, particularly those from recent, substantial books.  But these separately published bibliographies identify major works of lasting importance.

Specialized Books

The following are anthologies that deal specifically with the topic of women, gender and the Middle Ages. For general information on Middle Ages, please look at the LibGuides for HST 320: The Early Middle Ages and HST 330: The Later Middle Ages.
