Researching Domestic Violence

While the amount of data and links on the BJS site may be a little overwhelming, it is an excellent resource for students looking for statistics gathered and analyzed by the law enforcement and government agencies.

NCJRS links researchers to subject specific statistics. You may find it helpful to begin using the site by selecting a category from the left hand menu (e.g., corrections, courts, crime, etc.).

The Sourcebook is often good place to begin looking for statistics. This link will bring you to the table of contents where you can browse by topic. You can also use the search box in the upper right, but be aware that you need to use the terms as they appear in Sourcebook (e.g., domestic violence doesn't retrieve relevant results but intimate partner violence does).

This site includes reports on topics such as violent crime, bank crime, terrorism, white collar crime, and missing persons.

This site is a gateway to government statistics online.

This site provides links to immigration statistics. While the site does not link directly to the Immigration Yearbook, the 2008 Yearbook is available on the DHS website.

This site provides statistics on federal cases.

Provides access to the following statistical FBI reports: Crime in the United States, Hate Crimes & Law Enforcement Officers Killed and Assaulted.

This is a nice source for international statistics on drugs and crime.

The CDC produces a number of reports, surveys, and publications on the topic of domestic violence. This link also provides information about prevention strategies and programs that the CDC has established to counteract domestic violence.
