What Are CALI Lessons?

CALI Lessons are interactive tutorials designed to help law students improve their knowledge of legal concepts through a process of presenting a concept and then immediately testing them on it. Studies have shown that this is one of the most effective way to learn and retain knowledge.

CALI Lessons are absolutely free for students and faculty at CALI member schools to use. However, you must register on the CALI website. Please see your CALI representative to get the authorization code needed to register.

CALI Interactive Lessons

The interpretation of Wills Under the UPC
This program explores the Uniform Probate Code rules for interpreting wills where devisees die before the testator or there are changes in the nature or extent of the estate property. Survival, lapse and antilapse and statements of contrary intent are explored at some length along with ademption, increase and advancements of bequests.
Powers of Appointment
This lesson addresses the creation and exercise of a power of appointment. The lesson discusses the different parties involved in the creation of a power of appointment. The lesson includes a variety of problems designed to test the student's understanding of the rules governing the power of appointment.
Life Estate
This lesson will examine the life estate, the shortest freehold estate in land recognized by Anglo-American law. This lesson covers: the definition of the life estate; how the life estate is created along with associated problems; and legal characteristics of the life estate, including the complex legal relationship of the owner of a life estate to the holders of future interests in the land following the life estate.
Basic Future Interest
This lesson is part of a series of exercises covering Basic Future Interests. While the 10 lessons comprising this series can be worked in any sequence, the lessons do to some degree build on each other. Thus, it is suggested that students work them in order.
The Execution and Revocation of Wills Under the Uniform Probate
This exercise helps users understand the requirements of the Uniform Probate Code for the execution and revocation of testamentary instruments such as wills and codicils. It looks at the requirements for both attested written wills and holographic wills in the context of hypothetical estates. It explores the rights of pretermitted heirs. This lesson was revised to reflect the 2008 Amendments.
