Library Services for Online Learners

About this Page

You can get a library card even if you're not local. Read this page to find out how. We've also included the official library policies regarding library cards and the UMass Pass (i.e., your student ID).

Getting a Card

Your student ID, which is called a UMass Pass, doubles as your library card. It will help ensure that you have access to the full range of Carney Library services. When you activate your UMass Pass, you will be automatically registered as an active student library user.

Students enrolled in fully online programs can apply for a UMass Pass online. All other students must obtain a UMass Pass in person.

Library Policies

As with most identification cards, a UMass Pass/active library card comes with rules. The following are the library-related rules that you need to know about when registering for a UMass Pass.

The OFFICIAL Library Policies are:

An active UMass Pass is required for student borrowing privileges.

You must notify the library if your UMass Pass is lost or stolen. You are responsible for all items taken out using your card.

Your account and library card privileges are valid ONLY as long as you remain a student at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.

Your library account will automatically be renewed as long as your are registered as a matriculating student. If you experience problems with accessing library resources and services you should check your university status, the problem may be there.
